  • IK4-IKERLAN will be showcasing its capabilities at Europe’s most important trade fair on embedded systems
    up of the most important players from across the continent IK4 IKERLAN is making a significant effort to drive forward R D relating to embedded systems they are electronic devices used to control in a robust and reliable way one or more of the functions of the object they have been built into be it a vehicle an industrial machine or a wind turbine These systems are contributing towards driving forward the competitiveness of industry since they enable the features safety and efficiency of the objects that contain them to be increased and this gives these objects outstanding added value on the market At Embedded World 2015 the R D centre will be displaying its capabilities to companies interested in high dependability electronic systems for critical applications those whose breakdown would have serious consequences from the point of view of people safety or due to their economic repercussions IK4 IKERLAN is in fact an international benchmark in the development of devices of this type thanks to the experience it has built up in collaboration with various companies At its stand number 242 in Hall 4 it will be displaying various developments linked to the transport industrial capital goods wind energy and elevation sectors Embedded World 2015 The Embedded World Exhibition Conference 2015 taking place in Nuremberg Germany from 24 to 26 February is the most important event of the year for the European embedded systems sector Two figures suffice to highlight its importance last year this event had 856 exhibitors and drew over 26 000 visitors Embedded World 2015 will be an unbeatable showcase enabling us to display our strength in the field of high dependability electronic systems for critical applications to the most important players in the sector We are endorsed by our experience we have helped many companies

  • IK4-IKERLAN and ETH-Zürich collaborate on research into wireless transmission of energy
    consolidate its support for the training of and recognition of the talent of the people who make up the Centre while intensifying its commitment to open innovation based on collaboration with other organisations The agreement was signed on behalf of the Swiss centre by Prof Dr Johann Walter Kolar the head of the organisation s Department of Power Electronic Systems He is an international authority in this field and has a whole host of distinctions for his research he has received distinctions from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE and from Power Conversion Intelligent Motion PCIM and also from the ETH of Zürich and the University of Canterbury for his contributions in the academic field as well as his activities to promote spin offs The collaboration with this prestigious school will help to strengthen the commitment that IK4 IKERLAN has made towards the field of power electronics to develop cutting edge technology and applications in various sectors in which the Basque economy has a leading position The first step the two organisations have agreed on provides for a stay at the Swiss university of the IK4 IKERLAN researcher Ugaitz Iruretagoyena who will be exploring the possibilities of the wireless transmission of energy During his stay at the Centre Iruretagoyena will be conducting research into methods to transmit energy without contact in other words ones that do not require leads This technology could have applications in a whole range of areas in particular in those relating to transport Specifically this IK4 IKERLAN researcher will be attached to the power electronics systems laboratory as a PhD student and will be studying power transmission systems for electric vehicles by means of high power induction About IK4 IKERLAN IK4 IKERLAN is a leading centre in technology transfer and in the contribution of

  • IK4-IKERLAN presents the Multipartes project at a top forum on automotive electronics
    recently In it Jon Pérez the coordinator of IK4 IKERLAN s line of research into Embedded Systems dealt with the aims and results achieved in the Multipartes European project which the centre is leading The technology needed to incorporate multiple embedded systems for control purposes with varying degrees of criticality into a single multicore platform fitted with various processing cores is being developed within the framework of this project funded by the European Union s 7th Framework Programme In addition to its impact on the automotive sector this technology has applications in spheres as diverse as video devices the aerospace sector and wind energy Embedded systems for control purposes are computer processors that are built into a whole host of objects used every day If chips from a single processor were used more than anything else in the past the technology developed in this project will enable various processors that undertake very different tasks within one and the same platform to be integrated This will enable their weight the space they occupy the cost of the hardware and their energy consumption to be significantly reduced The conference which took place on 4 November was well attended by representatives of original

    2014 The IK4 IKERLAN researcher Zorione Herrasti has proposed a method to develop more sensitive biosensors Improving the sensitivity of these devices is crucial for applying them in sectors like healthcare agriculture and the environment In her work entitled Nanostructured surfaces for developing electrochemical biosensors and incorporating them into a portable detection system Herrasti has developed a portable electrochemical detection system into which electrodes with nanostructured surfaces have been fitted The nanostructuring of the sensor surfaces by means of carbon nanotubes has been found to amplify the signals recorded and lowers the detection limits of various analytes of clinical interest Electrochemical biosensors allow portable POC Point of Care devices to be developed These devices offer numerous advantages over other diagnostics systems as they enable the analyses to be automated their costs to be cut and are easier to use The work is part of the centre s line of research into Microsystems for industrial environments IK4 Ikerlan Organisation and team Results Infrastructures and equipment Professional development IK4 Research Alliance Mondragon Corporation R D for companies Product and service development Energy efficiency and energy storage Operational efficiency and advanced manufacturing IK4 IKERLAN Inspires Our research areas Embedded systems Electrical and power
