02 01 2014 Electrochemical biosensing of non electroactive targets using ferrocene labeled magnetic particles and CNT wiring Analyst 2014 139 1334 1339 Herrasti Zorione Olivé Monllau Rosa Muñoz Francesc Martínez Fernando Baldrich Eva We show that target binding onto ferrocene modified magnetic microparticles MP Fc promotes physical sheltering of the labels This can be measured electrochemically by CNT wiring which enhances ten fold the signals registered compared to direct detection of the MPs alone As a proof of concept detection of detergents and antibodies is accomplished In these preliminary experiments random binding of 0 01 Tween 20 onto MP Fc was detectable both voltametrically and impedimetrically after a 2 min incubation Furthermore affinity capture of 4 μg mL 1 of biotinylated antibody by streptavidin MP Fc could be measured in less than 30 min and even in the presence of 1 mg mL 1 of BSA IK4 Ikerlan Organización y equipo Resultados Infraestructuras y equipamiento Desarrollo profesional IK4 Research Alliance Mondragón Corporación I D para empresas Desarrollo de productos y servicios Eficiencia energética y almacenamiento de energía Eficiencia operativa y fabricación avanzada IK4 IKERLAN Inspira En qué investigamos Sistemas embebidos Sistemas eléctricos y electrónicos de potencia Fiabilidad estructural y mecatrónica

  • SU-8 based microprobes for simultaneous depth neural recording and drug delivery in the brain
Berganzo Gemma Gabriel Rosa Villa and Luis J Fernández While novel influential concepts in neuroscience bring the focus to local activities generated within a few tens of cubic micrometers in the brain we are still devoid of appropriate tools to record and manipulate pharmacologically neuronal activity at this fine scale Here we designed fabricated and encapsulated microprobes for simultaneous depth recording and drug delivery using exclusively the polymer SU 8 as structural material A tetrode and linear like lectrode patterning was combined for the first time with single and double fluidic microchannels for independent drug delivery The device was tested experimentally using the in vivo anesthetized rat preparation Both probe types successfully recorded detailed spatiotemporal features of local field potentials and single cell activity at a resolution never attained before with integrated fluidic probes Drug delivery was achieved with high spatial and temporal precision in a range from tens of nanoliters to a few microliters as confirmed histologically These technological advancements will foster a wide range of neural applications aimed at simultaneous monitoring of brain activity and delivery at a very precise micrometer scale IK4 Ikerlan Organización y equipo Resultados Infraestructuras y equipamiento Desarrollo profesional IK4 Research Alliance Mondragón Corporación

Maria Nefeli Tsaloglou Florian Laouenan Christos Moritz Loukas Lisandro Gabriel Monsalve Christine Thanner Hywel Morgan Jesus M Ruano López and Matthew C Mowlem Quantitation of specific RNA sequences is a useful technique in marine biology that can elucidate cell abundance speciation and viability especially for early detection of harmful algal blooms We are thus developing an integrated microfluidic system for cell concentration and lysis RNA extraction purification and quantitative RNA detection for environmental applications The portable system is based on a microfluidic cartridge or lab card using a low cost injection moulded device with a laminated lid Here we present real time isothermal RNA amplification using reagent master mixes preserved on chip in a gel at 4 C for up to eight months We demonstrate quantitation by reference to an internal control in a competitive assay with 500 cell equivalents of the toxic microalga Karenia brevis Annealing of primers amplification at 41 C and real time fluorescence detection of the internal control and target using sequence specific molecular beacons were all performed on chip IK4 Ikerlan Organización y equipo Resultados Infraestructuras y equipamiento Desarrollo profesional IK4 Research Alliance Mondragón Corporación I D para empresas Desarrollo de productos y servicios Eficiencia

  • Surface treatment patterning of organic photovoltaic films for low-cost modules
J G Tait R Gehlhaar R Pacios D Cheyns This work describes a patterning technique for the photoactive layer of organic photovoltaic modules We demonstrate the fabrication of efficient poly 3 hexyl thiophene 2 5 diyl 6 6 phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester P3HT PCBM based organic photovoltaic modules through a specific surface treatment based on the deposition of a fluorinated self assembled monolayer SAM on top of the bottom electric contact Direct self patterning of the photoactive layer is achieved by the high contact angle between the SAM and the polymer solution while a smooth topography is created by combining two solvents with different surface tensions and boiling points in the polymer PCBM solution The resolution of the patterning is approximately 400 lm for modules based on a conventional cell architecture and 120 lm for an inverted architecture As a result we show 25 cm2 P3HT PCBM based organic photovoltaic modules with 10 series connected cells fabricated via roll to roll compatible deposition and patterning techniques IK4 Ikerlan Organización y equipo Resultados Infraestructuras y equipamiento Desarrollo profesional IK4 Research Alliance Mondragón Corporación I D para empresas Desarrollo de productos y servicios Eficiencia energética y almacenamiento de energía Eficiencia

  • Nanomorphology influence on the light conversion mechanisms in highly efficient diketopyrrolopyrrole based organic solar cells
Ajuria Sudam Chavhan Ramón Tena Zaera Jihua Chen Adam J Rondinone Prashant Sonar Ananth Dodabalapur Roberto Pacios In this work diketopyrrolopyrrole based polymer bulk heterojunction solar cells with inverted and regular architecture have been nvestigated The influence of the polymer fullerene ratio on the photoactive film nanomorphology has been studied in detail Transmission Electron Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy reveal that the resulting film morphology strongly depends on the fullerene ratio This fact determines the photocurrent generation and governs the transport of free charge carriers Slight variations on the PCBM ratio respect to the polymer show great differences on the electrical behavior of the solar cell Once the polymer fullerene ratio is accurately adjusted power conversion efficiencies of 4 7 and 4 9 are obtained for inverted and regular architectures respectively Furthermore by correlating the optical and morphological characterization of the polymer fullerene films and the electrical behavior of solar cells an ad hoc interpretation is proposed to explain the photovoltaic performance as a function of this olymer blend composition IK4 Ikerlan Organización y equipo Resultados Infraestructuras y equipamiento Desarrollo profesional IK4 Research Alliance Mondragón Corporación I D para empresas Desarrollo de productos y servicios Eficiencia energética y almacenamiento de
