of self and the worship of what is foreign After a decade of internet I can t see any other explanation Hivern at Piknic showcase is one of the most anticipated shows of the season What do you think about the appearance of this label on the scene I ve always really liked Hivern since the beginning when it established itself as a cult label Now that I have my own label I notice how they took each step the Blanc the Hivern edit This year they started taking off and have released a handful of high level maxis They are also celebrating showcases around the world I was performing at one and the public response was really good absolutely full on and debauched Perhaps the crisis has encouraged a return to the underground and DIY The word underground doesn t mean anything anymore now things aren t underground but online On the other hand the market and the dance music scene have always been fed by small cult labels What do you have prepared for Piknic I m going to do a live set with a few samplers Octatrack and SP 404 and a synth Blofeld I ll play mostly unedited material and some tracks that Hivern has released Depends how it goes between 12 14 tracks Your collaboration with British label multivitamins meant a change in your career What do you think about that time Well I don t know if it signifies a change or not Honestly interesting things didn t come out of it no remixes and other places didn t ask me for maxis On the other hand I ended up producing and that s always a motivator to release You last EP Ode to New York received really good reviews Tell us a little about the creative process What objectives did you have when you started to put it into shape I am always working with a bunch of songs at the same time between 8 and 10 Depending on what I see some could end up on the same EP so I work harder to finish those Putting together 6 or 7 that I had to choose I noticed that all of them have echo sounds of the Big Apple as if it were soundtrack made by someone who had never been there but simply inspired by its history and its culture pure fiction What do you think about your show at Sónar Did it bring you and your career more acclaim Sónar is the most prestigious electronic festival in this country so it always carries prestige they ve even succeeded to get my neighbours there On the other hand my career hasn t given me that much support even though it may seem like it Things are moving very slowly and each new step and level takes a lot of work to get to What do you think about the concept that Piknic Electronik is trying to develop Is it attractive Well

  • A historic day | Piknic Electronik Barcelona
that will go down in history that included Maceo Plex Michael Mayer and the Kompakt Records universe at the Joan Brossa Gardens at Montjuïc The day began with Dj Fra and Scharre hand in hand The Apolo resident and his companion played four hours behind the decks serving us hits and raising the temperature by the minute After Brit Dauwd arrived with his super energetic live Within just an hour he left the imprint of his great talent and amazing touch and then he handed the baton to Flügel and Mayer These Germans offered up a lesson in quality techno and house rhythms with a session that super connected and rich that created an ambient flow and got the crowd dancing And just in time Maceo Plex arrived The North American DJ who resides in Barcelona offered no respite 90 minutes of 3 figure bpm s adrenaline and constant rhythm An authentic hurricane that touched everyone and in the place of cows and houses left the great sensation of having experienced something historical flying through the air For the last time this season there was Bonus Track at Nisa Club The last of the year which was celebrated in the

an encyclopedic reference in techno and dance Do Dj s also have to teach about music as well I ve always liked playing some classics or relating current things with older tracks Although the most important thing is that the crowd is having a good time not getting music history lessons How would you define your sessions I don t know I simply try to play good music I like to combine styles but at the same time I enjoy when I go deep into something specific I try not to pigeonhole myself What do you think about the Barcelona electronic music scene Has it changed a lot in recent years I think some things are better than ever There a ton of really good producers and desire to make good music despite the crisis In other ways it s not so great but it s difficult to consolidate things when the world is moving so quickly The scene has changed a lot like the rest of the world in recent years At Nitsa you also have the role of programmer What does an electronic artist need to play at a Barcelona club Basically that we like what he does and and that it s relevent to the current musical panorama You don t go for current fads in the artistic world and the quality is constant at Nitsa Is it easy to maintain this posture It s when you have defined principals We ll die with our ideas intact What do you have prepared for your seesion at Piknic A varied session very danceable I always improvise depending on the the dance floor so we we ll see What do you think about Piknic Electronik trying to bring together electronic music day and family Do you think the future

at festivals like Sónar Monegros and FIB At which type of venue do you feel most comfortable I have as great a time playing at a festival for 10 000 people as I do for playing for 1 000 at a club I feel lucky to have played at the biggest festivals and clubs around the world But the best place to play for my tastes is the club close to the people with good sound In Barcelona Moog where I play every two months is my favourite club In Europe I would choose Panorama Bar in Berlin where I had the pleasure to perform on three occasions We need more clubs and less big festivals What have you prepared for us at the Piknic I haven t prepared the session I like to let myself go and improvise even though I have many of the tracks and edits that I will definitely play It will be a 100 Undo session with a combination of light and dark happiness and melancholy and with the intention that the people enjoy themselves to the max listening and dancing to the electronic dance music that I find the most exciting What do you think about the Piknic Electronik concept Is it attractive to you It s seems attractive and necessary There was a need for day events in open air with something for families You guys nailed it Do you think the concept of leisure and family will become more popular The first raver generation has grown up now and they have children Are the rules of the game changing It s obvious there are more and more events going in this direction Sónar Kids Piknic Brunch minimúsica as you said many who started out in the 90 s coinciding with the emergence of electronic music are now parents and are grateful for these kinds of initiatives In the wake of Sonar many events related to electronic music have popped up in the city do you think that Barcelona could also become a leading city on the scene like Chicago Detroit or Manchester I think Barcelona has already been a leader in electronic music for many years You just have to look at the large number of festivals events and clubs open every weekend and throughout the year You re a multi faceted artist a DJ producer or the mind behind Factor City label With which hat are you most comfortable I m comfortable with all three in fact the three go hand in hand and they feed each other Tell us what led you to create Factor City Did you need more ways to express yourself beyond the role of creator Can you contribute more to your art form Victor Vicknoise then now Shelby Grey was who got me involved to start a record label together The reason was what I told you in the first answer Eleven years ago and after Minifunk and Cosmos closed there were no record labels in

packed with hits he did not forget the ups and downs that give shape to a session All this in a resounding coherent space tinted with narrative Decelerations that empty your stomach combined with bpm highs that surround all orbits to become winds of energy A beautiful path that ended with Neil Young s Only love can break your heart passing through Saint Etienne s electropop A true luxury The day was complete thanks to Futureboogie who brought their very special showcase The first ones to play were these under Futureboogie s umbrella who made clear their possession of vast musical baggage and maneuvered the the crowd magically Afterwards we listened to Crazy P Soundsystem that made the audience dance like crazy with his funk and disco touch Then came Waifs Strays who regardless of only being 50 there amused the crowd and set off the dancefloor After this Futureboogie closed its showcase with Maxxi Soundsystem who left us wanting more and more He proved to all his talent and why he is the shining jule he is His end of set with Regrets No Have We Use For was truly memorable Another Piknic Electronik full of variety Days to

guess it s because there s something truly genuine about their sound something that only they can reproduce What have you prepared for us at Piknic I ve prepared a two and a half hour session I will start by going through my main past and present influences but the session will mostly navigate through the seas of Nu Disco and House You just released your first LP this 2014 called Montjuïc First of all why did you chose this title Since we re Piknic Electronik it s a well known reference to us For me Montjuïc is a glance to the past When I was a boy I spent hours and hours playing in its parks and hopping on and off the rides of the old theme park The naming of the album is mere nostalgia it even holds certain airs from the past within its tracks So tell us a bit about the album What were your objectives before beginning the creative process Were these objectives accomplished I honestly didn t have any particular objectives with this album But I knew I wanted to create something that was compact and that held an argument within its beat So I put myself to work without having a preconceived concept of what I wanted to produce Did I accomplish my objectives I think so I m very pleased with the results Montjuïc has been received with good reviews Does this add pressure to your work or are you comfortable with it I am tremendously grateful for all the reviews the album has received I think a lot of people understood the message I wanted to transmit I don t feel pressure at all In fact it s quite the contrary all this motivates me to keep working harder Your first reference came out with Lapsus Records your own label How was it for you to direct a label Did it give you more headaches or satisfactions I won t deny that it takes great dedication but the reward is worth the sacrifice To be able to bet on nacional artists you trust to be in contact with musicians you ve been following for the last 20 years to play with vinyls to take care of every reference to connect with the public I really hope this never ends Next season will be particularly intense for the label we ve prepared some references that we re dying to show you all What do you think about the event that Piknic Electronik wants to develop Do you find it attractive Of course I think it s already a consolidated proposal within the city I ll always support initiatives that foment a different approach to electronic music And do you think the family leisure concept will consolidate with time The first ravers grew up and now they have children But have game rules changed I think that nowadays lots of festivals specially the summer ones have incorporated proposals for the entire family within
