    factor clave para el desarrollo de una de las defensas inmunitarias del organismo Investigadores del IIBM CSIC descubren un factor clave para el desarrollo de una de las defensas inmunitarias del organismo La vocación por conocer cómo funcionan los mecanismos de defensa de nuestro cuerpo ha llevado al grupo de investigación liderado por el Dr Antonio Castrillo del IIBM CSIC a descubrir un factor que controla el desarrollo y especialización de un tipo de células centinela llamadas macrofagos del griego gran comedor que devoran todo lo que consideran extraño y muy importantes para las funciones inmunitarias de nuestro organismo Mediante el uso de ratones modificados genéticamente esta investigación ha demostrado que la proteína LXRalpha regula la aparición y función de los macrófagos en el bazo el mayor filtro de la sangre y órgano donde se producen muchas respuestas inmunitarias Este estudio no sólo puede tener implicaciones en conocer como se desarrollan las células inmunitarias sino también en como los macrófagos participan en las decisiones de actuar o no frente a elementos propios o extraños en nuestro organismo inmunidad frente a tolerancia El estudio se ha publicado en el número de Agosto de la revista Nature Immunology http www nature com
