catering we were much too spent to deal A few phone calls were placed but as soon as we saw the numbers coming back to us we pushed the papers aside and resolved to concentrate on happier things During one wedding conversation we forced ourselves to stop talking about the weighty stuff and stick to fun things like how many different ways we could embarrass our family members during the party knowing how many times they d try to embarrass us So yes The Wedding was on our minds but it didn t consume us completely thank god We got to enjoy a new computer though by we I mean me and by enjoy I actually mean obssess over With new process power came new responsibilities namely churning out numbers reports for my duties as condo board treasurer and churning out web pages for the secret ILTB in law to be web project If there was a moment to spare I was stationed in front of the new baby in fact I suspect this is what it s like to actually have a new baby in the house grabbing all the attention and preventing vital activities like sleep and a social life It s also possible that I have no idea how babies actually work With fall came the chill which kiboshed my surprisingly successful summertime exercise regimen Nowadays most of my exercise comes from the guffaws produced by Sarah s morning workout routine which involves a combination of inflatable ball moves and parroting the kickboxers on DVD God bless her for finding a way to stay mobile in the winter I shovel snow and pick at ice when I can but it just doesn t compare I may have to succumb and join the g y m We ve

up that damn ice dam The suggested method for clearing up an ice dam involves a pantyhose and b a large amount of an ice melting compound like calcium chloride Sarah finds this interminably amusing and I can see her point One doesn t often get to combine the fields of hosiery and home repair To the regret of cross dressing carpenters everywhere Just like all curious first time homeowners we only did our research after first trying to solve the problem on our own In our eyes the logic was pretty simple ice exists must destroy ice We ve both been through physics and we re both familiar with the enemies of ice boiling water salt and large blunt objects With a very limited supply of the first and a impatience that prevented use of the second we applied method number three the hammer Before we tackled the ice dam itself we went up and down the stairs removing the half inch thick sheets of ice that covered each stair This was not only incredibly effective and good exericse for my right arm but a great proxy for therapy Each stair represented another enemy which I then got to shatter into bits It s not that I despise so many people I just hate ice Knocking off the foot long icicles was especially fun until some of the falling bits hit and destroyed our motion sensitive floodlights That may have been a bit of last gasp revenge from the ice gods for all of my heartless destruction It was onto to the roof I hadn t been up there since our inspection sixteen months earlier and I had forgotten how beautiful it was up there I might have lain down and taken it all in but for the freezing

The life The neighborhood The neighbors the new tricks The obsessions the parenthood The pets The photography The possessions the pregnancies The relationship the talking The travelling The wedding RSS Atom Thursday December 8 2005 By Sarah Scarf v2 0 Last Hanukah Sandy got a scarf from me It was lovely knit from some Aurora Bulky a yarn which has the sponginess of a well yeasted bread dough paired with the exquisite softness of merino Unfortunately Aurora is also slippery as hell and no sooner had I woven in hundreds of yarn tails left over from where I started or ended stripes than they started to pop out All over The scarf went from awesome to ratty in less than a month I lived with it last winter I didn t know what I could do But this winter my perfectionism got the better of me He didn t mind the ends that much but every time I saw the scarf a shudder of disgust would overtake me So I did what any slightly unbalanced control freak knitter of a fiance would do I unraveled his entire scarf Then I tried to connect all the tiny pieces of yarn that were what remained of the scarf by using a complicated technique known as the Russian join This took me hours and did not as promised result in invisible joins between the various colors It resulted in lumpy lumpy joins Unraveled it again Then I tried knitting the scarf as a tube to hide the ends on the inside but that was just way too thick and took duh twice as much yarn So I unraveled it again At the end of my rope so to speak I headed out to the yarn store so I could get some advice Luckily

the parenthood The pets The photography The possessions the pregnancies The relationship the talking The travelling The wedding RSS Atom Tuesday December 6 2005 By Sandy Two chickens in every pot We ve tried to get better about planning out our meals for the week either by deciding the week s meals in advance or cooking a huge batch of one meal on Sunday and having it last for several lunches and dinners down the road It was this latter technique we tried this past weekend with a lovely chicken curry recipe and another for spiced cauliflower both from the highly recommended Indian Home Cooking Both recipes serve four One s ane entree and one s a side so taken together they probably serve five or six In an increasingly familiar lapse in judgement we decided to double it Normally the extra effort involved in cooking enough food for a platoon is something we don t mind This is how we have fun some tip cows we like to cook But on this Sunday we had to get this cooking all done and eat the meal before Sarah left for an event meaning we had an hour and a half This due to nothing more than poor planning We didn t make it After two hours of shopping and cooking Sarah was going to have to leave without even tasting the fruits vegetables of her labor With fifteen minutes to go as Sarah swapped out of her apron and into her going out clothes I worked the cauliflower in a frenzy cooking and chopping and stirring and chopping some more Minutes before she had to go I finished it up but not the chicken and she scarfed down a half plate of it Sustenance was achieved though without the calm

Sarah solves this by getting up early a few times a week setting a kitchen timer for thirty minutes and performing a variety of tricks on the exercise ball otherwise known as the Sexiest Exercise Equipment Ever Ostensibly these things are supposed to give one a healthy cardio workout not prepare them for a life on the strip club stage which is how it looks every time I catch her in the act She s out in the living room doing her thing a hip twirl here a pelvic thrust there as I walk out of the bathroom after my shower and after a few minutes of this I feel as if I have to go back in again Sarah on the ball Sarah loves it and with the decline in my routine I thought I d give it a try I wanted to get some abdominal work out I told her something equivalent to sit ups Why I didn t just do some sit ups is something I ll be pondering for a while She knew exactly which move to recommend and performed it herself Feet against the wall ball under the small of your back commence crunching I climbed on to try myself and fell right off I tried again Do you feel it in your stomach she asked Not really Try moving the ball this way No now it hurt in my shoulders Hmm maybe if you put your feet like this Still wasn t right You know what I said I think I ll just try normal sit ups At which point I laid on the floor and screamed in horror I couldn t lie down Any attempt to do so resulted in a pain commensurate with a sucker punch to the gut Sitting up was

details impossible coincidences sheer luck plus the added bonus of an undercurrent of sinister world events It s not mine to tell really but just trust me It s a great story I like thinking about this blog as a kind of extension of Sandy s and my oral history And so in that tradition here s our story confusing details impossible coincidences sheer luck and all A few years ago I used to watch a lot of professional wrestling with a group of friends all guys that I inherited from one Mr Jon Solomon when he moved away from Chicago One of these friends Ted and his roommate Bob had a party in late May of 2002 So I came to the party with several of these guys and proceeded to hang out Meanwhile Sandy who went to college with both Ted and Bob was also at the party We met in the kitchen where we made some silly small talk and were ditched by our friends Eventually we felt kind of awkward and made lame excuses to drift back to our own groups Later in the evening I ran into a girl I knew from high school who was one of my dad s students Pause for key background info my dad who taught high school English at my alma mater is also a professional storyteller of some reknown Sandy was lurking nearby because he though I was cute and so he overheard when the girl asked me about my dad I have no idea what she actually said but it was something like how is Mr Lieberman Is he still telling stories Sandy jumped out from his lurking spot and said your father is a storyteller Yeah And his name is Lieberman Yeah SYD Lieberman Um Yeah
